Stephen Harper is Focused - Like a Laser! - to Fund the Afghan Elite's Dubai Real Estate Purchases

What? No Gazebos?!
Stephen Harper is dedicated and determined to lead on Afghanistan's security. Or at the very least, he's dedicated and determined to see that Afghanistan's corrupt leadership can keep buying swanky new property in Dubai when US troops pull out of the country in 2014.

For the Conservatives, these two things are interchangeable.

Earlier this summer, Harper pledged $110 million a year to fund the Afghan National Army from 2015 to 2017 after its training mission ends in 2014.

That's the Afghan Army whose soldiers are turning its guns on NATO soldiers with such frequency they have a name for it (green-on-blue).

Does this effect the Harper Government's funding decision? No! (Remember the laser-like focus?)

And this is great news if you're a corrupt Afghanistan Elite! You need to have reliable funds to siphon to keep corruption stable and predictable. For example, how are corrupt Afghan plutocrats supposed to steal from Western governments and keep its own people impoverished and its institutions mismanaged when US Watchdogs are pointing out how they're diverting millions of dollars away from the Afghan Army's fuel for their own purposes?

So if you're a corrupt Afghan official with access to near-limitless funds but whose guaranteed security will end in 2014, what would you do with your ill-gotten millions?

Well, they took a page from the Tony Clement book of diverting public funds (available on Amazon!) and decided to buy some property in Dubai!

So as housing becomes less affordable for Canadians, it's good to know that Stephen Harper will be looking out for the little guy's access to housing: the little corrupt Afghan plutocrat guy and his access to Dubai mansions.
